During August 2009, the All Wales Osteoporosis Advisory Group (WOAG) undertook
an audit of all acute centres in Wales that manage fragility fracture patients. The audit
was undertaken to determine what proportion of centres had implemented a Fracture
Liaison Service and was launched at the Welsh Assembly. The audit was repeated in
2012. Paul Mitchell, Managing Director of Synthesis Medical, authored both reports.

Synthesis Medical has supported development of websites for national hip fracture registries
in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. In 2014, Synthesis developed content for a new website
for the Fragility Fracture Network (FFN), which provides an extensive suite of resources
focused on the 6 themes of the FFN.

Medical education initiatives
Synthesis Medical has contributed to development of Fracture Liaison Services (FLS)
throughout the world. From 2005 to 2010, we collaborated with healthcare professionals in the
UK to share best practice with colleagues in Asia and Europe, which led to the establishment
of FLS in many countries. Since 2011, Synthesis Medical has provided input to the highly
successful Capture the Fracture Campaign developed by the International Osteoporosis
Foundation. Capture the Fracture is leading international efforts to eliminate the pervasive
post-fracture osteoporosis care gap.
